PUNO Tours

Perched at an altitude of 3,827 meters above sea level, Puno is not only whipped by the powerful winds of lofty Andean peaks, but is also glared on by the sun.

Aside from its Plaza de Armas, the town is not especially attractive. It does however serve as the jumping-off point for tours of the islands of Lake Titicaca and the handful of little towns along the shore. After sunset, the daytime heat evaporates and night falls swiftly.
The temperature sometimes plunges bellow 0 degrees Celcius, so be sure to dress warmly.
Built in 1757, Puno’s cathedral has a pretty baroque facade with decorative elements inspired by the flora and fauna of Peru. Its interior however, is remarkably austere. While most Peruvian Churches are adorned with elaborate iconography, this cathedral is so simple that it almost looks bare.
