PERU Whitewater-Rafting-Kayak

Peru offers some of the world's best river journeys.

The rivers of Peru offer adventure for anyone who loves the outdoors.
We camp on beautiful beaches that have a new layer of sand deposited on them every monsoon. Once we leave base, there are few indications of modern civilization as we pass through farmland and jungle. The friendly local inhabitants are as curious about us as we are about them.

Peru is a land of many contrasts. The Western Coast is dry and arid, the central cordillera is dominated by the snow capped peaks of the Andes, and the eastern regions are filled with Amazonian rain forests. Through all of this flows an incredible network of rivers linking many diverse cultures and distinct floral and faunal habitats.

Peru features more than a dozen rivers that are over 600 km long. The five largest rivers alone total 7,000 km within Peru.

To take advantage of this natural playground, we use rubber rafts, which are powered by paddles and generally steered by the helmsman through the foaming rapids.

Internationally, rapids are qualified on a scale of I to VI according to the degree of difficulty (Class VI rapids are impossible to run, and portage is necessary). The Rivers where you can practice this sport are:

On the coast: Cañete, Lurin, Lunahuana
In the highlands: Colca, Cotahuasi, Vilcanota, Apurimac.
In the jungle: Tambopata, Pozuzo.
