Junín is very well known in Peru because of its museums, churches, squares, pre-Inca and Inca ruins, snow-covered peaks, lagoons and artisan centers.
The most important city in Junin is Huancayo, which became famous for its agriculture and folkloric traditions.
The Paca lagoon, three kilometers from Jauja, is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The Sanctuary of El Señor de Muruhuay can be found in nearby Tarma. Every year homage is given to El Señor de Muruhuay, in the month of May, combining religious fervor with a popular feast. The city of Huancayo is surrounded by eucalyptus groves. Another popular attraction is El Ingenio, which is a trout breeding center, the Junín National Reserve, La Pampa, Junín lake and also the Huayllay Rock Woods.
