Lares is a beautiful starting point to trek the Andes on this four day, three night trek. An unforgettable excursion. The trek takes in the Inca ruins of Ollontaytambo and Machu Picchu, as well as offering fascinating landscapes all the way to Machu Picchu.

 SUMMARY
  This excursion combines the most beautiful parts of Lares Valley with the fascinating archaeological ruins of Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu. Before commencing this moderately demanding trek, you can first stop in the village of Lares, where you can take advantage of thermal baths. This is an unrushed hike, emphasizing the passage rather than the destination so you can maximize your enjoyment of these unforgettable landscapes. In Ollantaytambo, you can admire the Inca legacy, which still remains part of the traditions of its inhabitants. You will end your excursion by visiting Machu Picchu by train.

ITINERARY

Day 01 : CUSCO, CALCA, THERMAL BATHS OF LARES, CONCANY

 

An early departure from Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Lares Valley. At Lares you can take advantage of thermal waters to bathe there and relax, before having lunch. Having eaten you will begin your hike, which is only around two hours to your overnight campsite.

Day 02 : CONCANY, IPSAYCOCHA

 

After a good breakfast you will take the road to the community of Huacawasi, a community which is famous for producing among the most beautiful fine weavings in the region. If you have ever wondered how to make a poncho, this is the place to do it.

You will continue to the mountain pass of Abram de Condorpasa (4100 m.) which is  the best place  to observe Mount Veronica (5750m) and her snow covered peak. A slow descent follows until reaching the Ipsaycocha lagoon, where you will spend the night. 

Day 02 : CONCANY, IPSAYCOCHA

After a good breakfast you will take the road in the direction of the community of Huacawasi. It is the community which produces among the most beautiful fine weavings of the region. You can admire their dexterity,and know their techniques of realization of ponchos. You will continue then in the direction of the passof the  mountain Abra de Condorpasa (4100 m.) This pass is the best  place  to observe the peak of Veronica (5750m) covered with snow. Then, You will come down slowly until  the lagoon of Ipsaycocha where you will spend the night. 

Day 03 : IPSAYCOCHA, PATACANCHA, WILLOC, PUMAMARKA, OLLANTAYTAMBO, AGUAS CALIENTES

 

After breakfast you will ascend this beautiful valley up to the community of Willoc,  where you will have lunch. Resuming the walk up to the community of Pumamarka,  you can appreciate various Inca terraces, arriving finally at Ollantaytambo, a small village surrounded by mountains and situated in the fertile Sacred Valley.

Ollantaytambo is one of the principal archeological sites in the Sacred Valley, with its impressive Inca fortress. You will then catch a train from the rail station to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night in a comfortable handpicked hotel. 

Day 04 : AGUAS CALIENTES, MACHU PICCHU, CUSCO

 

After an early breakfast, you will take the bus to Machu Picchu where, having broken the threshold of the Inca citadel, a guide will accompany you for about two  hours, answering your questions about the famous landmark, which was discovered in 1911 by the American explorer Hirham Bingham. A bus will take you back to Aguas Calientes, where you can take advantage of a little spare time to visit the many craft stalls or perhaps to try out the thermal baths here.
