IS IT FOR ME?
The biking tour to Coroico is for travelers who want to try this challenging adventure with a professional team. Coroico in Bolivia, is a good place to spend a night before heading into the Jungle. Because of the lower elevation, the weather is mild in comparison to La Paz, and has a resort-like feel to it.
Map: TRIP TO DEATH ROAD-BOLIVIA-LA CUMBRE-CORROIC

 SUMMARY
One of the maddest mountain bike adventures in Bolivia, the death road will leave your ears humming and your breaks smoking. True the road has lost a little of its danger label, since an alternative road diverted traffic from the route of freewheeling bikes but it will still stand your hairs on end if you decide to test yourself. Come to La Paz one of Bolivia’s two capitals, to feel the wind rush over your helmet, going downhill from the high mountains until the Jungle, while you are enjoying the view of the coca leaf plantations and waterfalls. of fun.

DAY 02- LA  PAZ  TO COROICO THROUGH THE DEAD ROAD

Buffet breakfast at the hotel before beginning the ride at wind-swept La Cumbre (4,700m) 15,400 ft, where you will see fantastic views of  the snow-covered peaks providing the clouds stay away, including Huayna Potosi (6,088 masl) From there, we descend rapidly down a twisting road amongst mountain peaks, grazing llamas and alpacas, tiny villages and a drug check-point. We stop for refreshments and a rest along the way, all the better to give us time to take in the scenery: towering cliff faces, dramatic drops and ever greener vegetation.
After a snack we descend further, freewheeling at speed down an undulating tarmacked section of road. Then we enter the jungle itself and the most challenging section of the ride. This infamous narrow dirt road is cut precariously into the side of the mountain and descends 2,000m (6,500ft). With 3,000 ft sheer drops to our left and hulking rock overhangs and cascading waterfalls to our right, we ride through mist, low cloud and dust. With a positive attitude and our expert supervision you can safely enjoy some of South America's most dramatic and beautiful scenery as you hurtle down the road.

As we get near the end of the ride, it gets progressively hotter and dustier. By the time you arrive at the bottom in Yolosa , 3,600 ft you will feel tired, hot, dirty and exhilarated. From Yolosa we catch a 7km (4 mile) ride up to Coroico (1,600m or 5,250 ft) -although masochists may choose to cycle up-where we can enjoy a late lunch, take in the magnificent scenery, spend time relaxing by the pool and enjoy a cold drink.

Coroico is a great place to enjoy the view  and the warm weather and to exchange stories about your mountain madness. The  Esmeralda Hotel receives near universal endorsements from all who stay here and we think you will not be disappointed by the bedrooms either.

DAY 03-  COROICO-LA PAZ

Free morning to relax at the swimming pool or just read your books while you enjoy the view from your bedroom. At the end of the afternoon you will go back to La Paz.
